Room was recently renovated, and was quite nice. However I still feel the rest of the hotel needs an overhaul. The overall ambience is still lacking.
Do not stay here!!!! I’m never one to complain, but I had one issue after the next at this hotel. I arrive and am checked into a room that was dirty..the bed was a mess and the garbage was all over the floor. I then proceed to tell the lady at the desk and she checks multiple rooms before giving me the keys to make sure they were clean. I’m finally given the keys to a room and I pull back the sheets and there is hair and dirt on the bed...and the garbage was never emptied!! I talk to the owner who then proceeds to change the sheets and took over 30 min to do so. Completely unacceptable. Do not waste your time here.
Very quaint hotel. Good price, excellent location and within walking distance to eateries and grocery store. Office closed most of the time so you need to ask all your questions upfront.
The rooms include full but tiny kitchens. The A/C unit was rather loud, but that is not unusual for hotel rooms. There is a Winn-Dixie nearby where we bought a rotisserie chicken and some soup. There is a minimum amount of dishes and pans in the kitchen cupboard, though we barely used them during this stay.
We booked at The Hyde Park Hotel because it was close to Tampa General Hospital where I was having a procedure, and reasonably priced considering its location. It was easy to find and, as I said, near the hospital. The hotel is interesting. The office is up a short and turning flight of stairs and the parking is a small lot right next to it with a few extra spaces on the narrow street. The office has DVDs on the honor system and they do not employ 24 hour desk clerks. If you get there when no one is on that office, it is some sort of paging system and they are supposed to call you. That setup is probably partly why the cost is so affordable for us. We made sure we were there at the posted check-in time and had no problem. There was just one young woman on duty when we got there, but she was very nice and efficient.
The rooms are very small and the decor incredibly drab. The door practically hit the bed when I opened it. There are no blankets on the beds, only sheets and a bedspread and the spread on mine had blood spots on the underside. I was there for two nights and the room was not tidied up at all on that 2nd day. I was only given a set of fresh towels on my bed when I returned that day. The hotel looks cute from the outside but little has been done inside to give the place any warmth or charm. The only thing it has going for it is the location and the price.
For the price and location it seems like a pretty good deal. Not sure what happened with the tragic negative reviews I have seen - some may be what I have heard referred to as revenge reviews, exaggerated reviews to get back at management for not having smoking rooms or for not handing out full refunds or free rooms for minor room issues. Who knows? I know I will go back there next time I need to stay in Tampa.
