It is a shame to have to taint the few very good police by a horrible rating, but the fact is, overall Tampa Police is one of the most unprofessional and poorly trained police departments in Florida -- if not the entire country. One of the biggest problems is the rampant nepotism and cronyism. This buddy and brother (literally) system leads to hiring people who aren't qualified but got the job because their dad worked there. Hires of sons, daughters, sister etc. also tend to get promoted. So not only are bad people in place, but bad people get into positions of leadership.

The union, the PBA, promotes this when this kind of thing should be discouraged if not outright stopped. Too much attention is paid to sending police to city council meetings rather than a focus on updated, professional and effective policing.

Sincerely,

On an individual basis, it is an outrage the number of times individual police or their group of pals break the law outright or abuse authority. The fact that nobody is held accountable reinforces this ability. Example: the police have a "rock squad" that does very little but they get to dress up in riot gear and wear their hair "cool" and rather than focus on where police enforcement is badly needed -- such as increased patrols in burglary prone areas -- these guys drive around in sporty cars looking "cool."

I want to thank you for the way your Police Department handled the Pet Dog that bit his owner’s that were trying to put a sweater on him, the Dog

they tazed him, and that didn’t stop him, so they shot

Be warned tampa police department will lock you up for feeding the Homeless... this is their plan on how to make America great again

This is so rampant.

Tampa Police handled this situation like Rock Star’s, in fact this Police department should be the model for all Police departments across the United States of America. I truly believe that there will come a day when the use of deadly force on a Pet Dog is no longer an option. I have always said if we can tranquilize a Bear that wanders into our community and return it to it’s natural habitat, we can treat our Pets with the same respect and dignity, your Police Department should be commended on a job well done, thank you,

him with a tranquilizer gun, and a bean bag gun to subdue him, and then Animal Control captured the Pitbull mix with a catch pole.

I had a straight-forward incident of vandalism at Home Depot and Tampa pigs screwed it up from the get go. They "didn't need witness statements" because the video was enough so they let the witnesses leave, no notes, then they find that the camera angle captured no video and I was stuck at a loss. I have found that through many experiences, its best not to call them.

Dear Tampa Police Department,

The Best !! I would like to look at the criminal histories of the complainers. I'm sure they're lengthy. Liberal democrats too I'm sure...

is a Pitbull mix, your Officer’s showed up prepared,

this story brought tears of joy to my eyes, our Pets are our family members.

But the worse aspect of the Tampa Police is the personal animus they allow to infect and impact what should be fair, honest police protection. Police go out of their way abusing authority to help a friend, but will do nothing if they don't like a person who might have with all good justification made a complaint. And making a complaint is a hopeless endeavor because their so-called "professional standards" do not investigate. This has become a real sore spot over the years, and lead to some members of the city council to establish a citizens' review panel. But the powerful police lobby has prevented this group from having any teeth. IF the Tampa Police actually policed its own, there would be no need for this. Until there is some strong laws such as anti-nepotism rules and breaking up cliques and holding bad cops accountable -- seriously -- this department will remain the laughing stock of police departments in Florida and worse, innocent people will continue to get hurt.

Our Pets aren’t usually treated very well by Police, in fact they usually don’t survive a Police encounter,

thank you, thank you!!!

I live in a very busy district which has a number of public housing areas. It is blatant what the Tampa Police have engaged in focusing on this, such as the overwhelming number of tickets given to bike riders (mostly blacks) for silly things like not having a light. It is an excuse to stop and frisk and the overwhelming majority of course is the low-income black community that is targeted.
