If you go, go for the cultural experience, not a culinary one.
I had the breakfast sandwich, with Cuban bread, scrambled eggs, bacon and swiss cheese. It wasn't very good. They should at least offer to press it because the bread is flavorless. The bacon, chopped into pieces is way undercooked, and the cheese is hardly noticeable. Their much touted Cuban sandwich is good, but there are far better in Tampa.
Special Breakfast Sandwich alone is worth coming in! You must order it! Bacon Cheddar Beer Muffin was a nice surprise. Cinnamon Roll and Donut Muffin were delicious. We also ordered a Grilled Cheese that nothing great and paled in comparison with everything else.
Alessi is a Tampa staple serving traditional Cuban food in the store and catering, and their bakery also offers Cuban influenced items along with some traditional baked goods. I'm not sure what all the fuss is about. Some of the food is good, but overpriced. They continue to bank on the idea that they have been around for a long time, and it seems to work for them. But, dozens of places serve better food and have more to offer. If they would modernize the menu some, keeping the traditional items, they'd get more business.
We appreciate the service we received from Alessi for our Thanksgiving Brunch at Acoustiblok. The Turkey Dinner Menu is perfect when ordering for others at a company. Ordered a small cake and they had it ready roughly in a hr, looks great haven't tried it yet. Staff was very friendly, they have a vast variety of cakes and pastries. I honestly went in hungry and came out with more stuff than I can eat lol.
This is the BEST place in town! They have been in business 105 years. Great sandwiches and bakery items! Try them the next time you are in the area!
